Freshwater aquariums are generally easier to maintain, less expensive and great for beginners in the aquarium hobby. The fish are generally hardy and forgiving of some variability in their environment. They can be captivating, packed with fun, colorful décor.
Saltwater aquariums are attractive because of the vivid and extraordinary sea creatures that can dwell in your tank, but they are a little trickier to maintain, as you have to recreate and maintain a stable ocean environment in order for your inhabitants to thrive.

Certainly, it may look difficult at first, but as they say, the biggest hurdle in every task is your mind.
A subcategory of saltwater aquariums is reef aquariums. With a reef aquarium, you move beyond a fish-only environment and start to include interesting reef fauna, live rock and live coral. The lighting and accessories needed to provide the stability for this environment become increasingly technical.
